Kerman rugs and history:
A city Southwest of Iran near the oasis of Dasht-e-Lut consists of 350,000 inhabitants. Rug manufacturing has a long history in this city. The background color is often red and the pattern is dominated by a centrally placed medallion. Borders often have flowers. Older rugs have more trees, animals, or figurative designs with high quality. The older rugs were one of the best in the world coming out of Iran. The most common name is Kerman-Lavar with a floral motif all over it. Unfortunately, The reputation has not been well served in recent years on the quality of the rugs.
