Qashghaie/ gashghaie rugs and history

Qashqai are tribal nomad tribes with Torkaman, Arab, Lurs, and Kurd's ethnic background. Some live near the city of Shiraz.Their colorful rugs and Kilim have red or brown ground colors or indigo blue and golden yellow. The rugs normally have a patter learned from past generations. The patterns could have a medallion layout with vertical diamonds attached. Some times they are repeated in each corner in a smaller size. These rugs are often made by Women weavers who mastered the skills of older generations. One of their famous rugs is called Kashkooli. The medium rugs usually have higher quality, lasting longer due to asymmetric knots and finished parts feature deeply depressed warps. The coloring materials are gathered from nearby countryside barks, berries, herbs, and other foliage to manufacture the needed dye.
