Hamadan rug and history:
It is 300 kilometers west of Tehran, This old city is called Ekbatana in the Bible ( book of Esther), famous names are Nahavand, Malayer, and Hossainabad. They are recognized by typical patterns and sizes. The patterns are repeated and the most common is the Herati pattern .the colors are indigo blue and madder red. They can be geometric or floral motifs with shiny natural dyed yarn and durable surface. The Hamadan older rugs are tied on wool wrap seem more appealing but recently they are made on a cotton warp with one weft. So Hamedan is great for utility rug.
